Representative Falzone Announces Additional Funds for Saugus Schools

Representative Mark Falzone announced the allocation of $134,696 in additional Title 1 federal education funds to be distributed to Saugus Public Schools in July. These funds are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and go to school systems selected by a formula applied state-wide. This money is in addition to the Title 1 support that Massachusetts currently receives annually, and represents the first half of new funds to be distributed, with the second half anticipated for allocation in the fall.

Representative Falzone said, “It is essential that our economic recovery efforts include education and assistance to our community’s schools. These funds help us retain needed jobs in our neighborhood schools and are an important investment in the education of our children. At a time of economic stress for us personally and as a community, these financial resources will help ease the burden on our Saugus town government and taxpayers, while helping our economy in the long-term through the improved quality of our students’ instruction and learning.”

Additional funds under this program are also being allocated to selected charter schools and regional vocational technical schools throughout Massachusetts, including $111,811 in this first disbursement for the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School. The school serves students in twelve communities North of Boston, including Saugus.
