Representative Falzone Announces $455,294 in Transportation Funding for Saugus
Representative Mark Falzone announced the successful level funding without cuts of Chapter 90 Transportation Funds for Saugus for Fiscal Year 2010. Saugus will receive $455,294 to be used for transportation improvements such as resurfacing roads and reconstruction of bridges. This funding, as part of the 2008 Transportation Bond Bill, was significantly increased last year and will continue at the new enhanced rate, despite the Commonwealth’s economic stress. Representative Falzone emphasized, “This money is essential for maintaining the quality transportation in our town’s neighborhoods, and I am very pleased to see it continued at the enhanced rate, without reduction. As a member of the Legislative Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets in 2008, I worked to shepherd this funding through the Massachusetts Legislature. I am particularly proud to see that, despite tough economic times, we were able to maintain this fundamental state financial support for the Town of Saugus.” Chapter 90 funds, used for local road and bridge projects, allow cities and towns to focus on existing transportation infrastructure improvements. The reconstruction, resurfacing, equipment, design and engineering help to ensure the long term viability of the Commonwealth’s infrastructure. The Chapter 90 funding is based on a formula developed by the Legislative Road Caucus which takes into account municipal road miles, population and employees.
