Representative Falzone Announces Release of Chapter 90 Transportation Funds for Local Road Projects
Representatives Mark Falzone announced the release of funding to be used for local road projects for the 2011 Fiscal Year, which begins July 1, 2010. This money will be used to create construction jobs, improve transportation and public safety, and encourage long-term economic development across the Commonwealth. Representative Falzone stated, “This funding will help to provide for necessary repairs and allow us to take on projects that we would not have otherwise been able to. I believe it will be of great benefit to all of the municipalities in my district, and I am hopeful that we will see many improvements by the conclusion of the 2011 Fiscal Year.” The funds, which were released from Chapter 90 funds provided to rebuild and repair local roads and bridges, came from a pool of $155 million, a $5 million increase from the current Fiscal Year. Chapter 90 funds are allocated as part of the three year Transportation Bond Bills approved by the Legislature in 2008. Funding for Chapter 90 is allocated using a longstanding formula based upon community road miles, population and employment. This year each city and town will receive an increase in Chapter 90 funding, with Saugus receiving $19,739 more for the 2011 Fiscal Year. FY2011 Apportionment based on Long-Standing Formula:
